VITA Free Tax Preparation Clinic

Quinnipiac’s community VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program is committed to giving back to the communities of Greater Hamden by having our dedicated accounting students harness their expertise to provide free tax preparation services to individuals and families with annual household incomes of $68,000 or less. By offering their time and proficiency, residents in the local communities can receive the financial assistance they deserve. Accounting professors look over each tax-return completed by our students before it is e-filed.

How to participate

Taxes will be prepared at the Keefe Community Center, 11 Pine Street, Hamden, Connecticut.

Walk-ins are welcome and no appointments are necessary.

The 2026 schedule will be released closer to tax season.

 

Document Checklist

For each session, taxpayers must bring the following documents

  • Social Security Card or ITIN numbers (For themselves and each person listed on the tax return)

  • A copy of last year’s federal and state returns, if available

  • A valid photo ID

  • Documentation for all income from work

  • Social Security or pensions

  • Forms: W-2, 1099-R, SSA-1099, 1099-G

  • Education expenses

  • Total amount paid for childcare: Daycare provider’s address and tax ID number

  • Bank routing information (Routing and Checking account)

  • Copy of mortgage 1098 form and receipt of property taxes paid

  • Access CT form 1095A (If the taxpayer has purchased medical insurance through the Marketplace Exchange)
